Morgan Sindall secures £8.5m university project

MORGAN SINDALL has begun work on an £8.5m accommodation block in Horsforth that will house 228 Leeds Trinity students from next September.

The seven-storey building on its Brownberrie Lane campus will have 29 cluster apartments with shared living and kitchen areas.

The construction giant was awarded a £27.5m contract last month to build a new home for the University of Huddersfield’s Law School and the School of Music, Humanities and Media.
Chris Brown, operations director at Morgan Sindall’s Leeds office, said: “This is an important appointment for us and plays directly to our strengths and experience within the student accommodation market.
“The building has been designed to raise the quality of student accommodation at Leeds Trinity University and we are committed to driving the same level of quality through the construction programme.”
Leeds Trinity expects to add 1,000 students to its existing campus population of 3,200 in the next five years.

Stephen Oddy, director of facilities at Leeds Trinity University, said: “The appointment follows a welcome increase in student applications at the University over recent years.
“The University is committed to providing its students with the best experience possible by continually investing in ongoing improvements to the campus buildings and facilities. The new accommodation will vastly improve campus life and ensure students have everything they need in one place.”

The building was granted planning permission by Leeds City Council’s planning committee in April 2015.
