Meadowhall marks 25 years since it helped change face of retail

MEADOWHALL Shopping Centre is today celebrating 25 years since it opened its doors to the first shopper on the site of the former Hadfield’s steel factory.
It now welcomes 25m visitors a year and is creating a party atmosphere across the weekend to mark the occasion.
Meadowhall was the second-largest shopping centre in the country when it opened in 1990, although now its 1.5m sq ft ranks it 10th nationally, and pioneered Sunday trading two years later.
Centre director Darren Pearce said: “We hope that every visitor to Meadowhall over this very special weekend will get to see and enjoy something that is linked to our celebrations and add to the spirit of the occasion.”
Meadowhall recently announced a £50m investment in the centre as it looks to build on its strongest performance in five years.
