Three new names on Legal 500 list of region’s leading individuals

THE 2015 Legal 500 list of Yorkshire’s leading individuals has 10 fewer names on than last year, with a number having moved to London or to more senior positions within their firms.
There has been an increase in the number of firms represented, with Clarion and Nabarro now having a lawyer on the list.
The three new entrants include Justine Osmotherley from Clarion, a first for the Leeds-based law firm.
Ms Osmotherley heads up the private clients team for Clarion and specialises in family law. She graduated from Sheffield Hallam in 1993, and joined Clarion in 2008 after 12 years at Shulmans Solicitors.
It is also the first time that DWF’s Jonathan Branton, head of EU and competition has been included. Prior to joining DWF, Mr Branton was a partner at Cobbetts and Squire, Sanders & Dempsey (now Squire Patton Boggs).
Lukas Rootman is the third to join the list in the health and safety and environment sectors, part of the team of “likeable lawyers” at Sheffield firm Nabarro. A graduate of the University of Johannesburg, Mr Rootman’s expertise is in real estate, mining, quarrying, waste, construction, infrastructure maintenance, chemicals and manufacturing.
There are 13 lawyers that were on the regional list in 2014 but have not appeared this year, mainly because they are now concentrating on other roles within their firm.
Pinsent Masons lost the most from the top regional list, mainly due to promotions to head offices in London. John Cleland has become managing partner and Adrian Barlow has become Pinsent Masons’ group head of property, both based in London. Mark Harris is also based in London, whilst Martin Shaw retired from the firm and become a consultant. Damian Crosse is now a partner in Dubai, and head of the commercial litigation and compliance team in the Middle East.
DLA Piper’s Simon Palmer, who specialises in contentious construction and engineering law, is also now based in Dubai.
Addleshaw Goddard has four fewer representatives on the 2015 list. Adam Aldred is now a barrister at Kings Chambers, Simon Kamstra has also moved to London as head of international arbitration. Ruth Snell and Lee Shankland also don’t reappear on the regional list.
Eversheds’ partner Robin Johnson has moved to the firm’s London offices, whilst Paul Smith has become the firm’s chairman. Formerly of DWF, James Haddleton moved to an in-house position at Clinigen Group as head of legal counsel.
