West Yorkshire legal merger creates 250-strong practice

TWO legal firms, Ramsdens Solicitors and Baxter Caulfield are merging from today.

The two West Yorkshire legal practices will join together under the Ramsdens brand to create a 23-partner firm with 250 staff, with a combined turnover of £12m.

Managing partner at Ramsdens, Paul Joyce, said it would “offer the business community one of the strongest corporate and commercial teams in West Yorkshire.”

He said: “Baxter Caulfield is a long established and hugely respected firm, particularly in the areas of Corporate/Commercial and heavyweight Litigation. The skill and experience that Baxter Caulfield will bring compliments perfectly the existing strengths within the Ramsdens practice.”

Ramdens has 220 staff, with a principal office in Edgerton and nine branch offices in Dewsbury, Elland, Huddersfield, Halifax, Holmfirth, Leeds, Mirfield, Slaithwaite and Wakefield.

It can trace its heritage back 140 years.

Stephen Newman, head of corporate and senior partner at Baxter Caulfield said: “We are excited to be teaming up with Ramsdens, an outstanding law firm which has gone from strength to strength over the last decade.

“We share an ambition for growth and the most important core value, delivering an excellent service to clients.”

David Bradley, non-executive chairman, said: “At a time when the landscape for the provision of legal services is changing faster than ever this merger focuses on the needs of clients and the desire of both firms to provide clients with a depth of resource, experience and expertise to better support the local business community.”
