Utilities firm commits to Sheffield for next 10 years on back of growth

FULCRUM, the Sheffield-based provider of utilties infrastructure, has committed to South Yorkshire for the next 10 years after it extended the lease on its headquarters at Sheffield Business Park.
The company, which was acquired from the National Grid in 2010, has around half of its 200-strong workforce at the site.
“We are very proud to be part of Sheffield’s vibrant business community and look forward to continuing our excellent relationship with the city with a new 10-year lease extension for our head office,” said Fulcrum’s chief executive Martin Donnachie.
Fulcrum has been busy reorganising the business and showed some success when its annual results for the year to March showed a pre-tax profit of £600,000 – a £5m improvement on a year earlier.
It has been making the transition to a directly managed project delivery service and at its AGM this week the company said it is on track to meet full year expectations. Fulcrum, which is listed on the Alternative Investment Market, has seen its share price more than double in 2015.
Fulcrum has increased the pace of its growth strategy, helped by building its multi-utility capabilities and assembling its first in-house dual fuel teams, who are trained in the delivery of both gas and electricity connections.
It has also won a number of “significant” contracts in the current financial year, including a £3.95m contract to install a 13-kilometre gas pipeline to four Speyside distilleries on behalf of Chivas Brothers, Diageo and Ian MacLeod Distillers.
Mr Donnachie added: “Our recent contract wins validate the investments made in our operations to continually improve customer service and endorse the trusted relationships which we have developed within our client base.”
