£32m Sheffield residential development given green light

PLANNING has been secured from Sheffield City Council for the development of a £32m residential site.

Part of the Manchester-based Crosslane Group, Crosslane Student Developments will redevelop the site on Scotland Street into a 437 bedroom student accommodation property.

It is located in the St Vincent’s Quarter of Sheffield is undergoing major regeneration, and will be Crosslane’s first development in Yorkshire, after the firm acquired the Princess Works site from the Bolsterstone Group in March this year.

The University only recently opened its engineering department adjacent to the site, whcih the firm hopes will attract more students there.

Each of the three residential blocks will have a green “living” roof.

The development will be operated by Crosslane’s Prime Student Living, which provides management, marketing and letting services for student accommodation assets throughout the UK.

Work will commence in November 2015 with practical completion set for the start of the 2017/18 academic year.

The Princess Works site was formerly used as a Brass Foundry which closed in 1972, and has been occupied by a number of short term, temporary occupiers since 2005.

Knight Frank Planning in Sheffield advised and acted for Crosslane Student Developments during the planning process and worked with Manchester’s DAY Architectural on plans for the site.
