Thorpe Park consortium backs city region’s presence at Mipim UK

LEEDS CITY REGION is getting ready to showcase its biggest development opportunities to investors later this month, buoyed by the momentum being generated across the region’s property sector.

The city region is exhibiting at MIPIM UK, a major property investment event in London in two weeks’ time, and will be promoting logistics, commercial and transport developments to property professionals.

Thorpe Park Leeds has now signed up as the headline partner for the event, as it prepares to begin work on phase two of its own development which has consent for 1.35m sq ft of mixed-use space.

“As we prepare to make the journey to the capital, I’m buoyed to hear the confidence that representatives from both the public and the private sector have in our region and look forward to this renewed vigour,” said Roger Marsh, chairman of Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP).

“A result perhaps of no longer only talking about cranes on the skyline, but also about tangible opportunities such as The HD One in Huddersfield, The Broadway in Bradford and Shilling Hill in Wakefield, being contagious amongst the investor, developers and occupiers who will be present.”

Thorpe Park Leeds, which is a joint venture by Scarborough Group International and Legal & General Capital, will be part of a programme of activity that will focus on investment, development and occupier opportunities across the city region.

Mark Jackson of Scarborough Group International, said: “With major investment secured through partnering with Legal & General Capital we are now progressing apace to deliver the second phase at Thorpe Park Leeds.  This project will bring enormous economic prosperity to East Leeds and we are pleased to join Leeds City Region at MIPIM to present a scheme that is a leading example of regional potential.

Leeds City Region will again work with the core cities of the north of England to promote the opportunities of being part of the Northern Powerhouse.
