Leeds Bradford Airport infrastructure investment ‘could reach £75m’

LEEDS BRADFORD AIRPORT’S link road, connecting the city with the West Yorkshire travel hub could cost up to £75m.

The council announced the price tag yesterday, and has drawn up three plans for improving access to the airport.

The cheapest option was a £15m upgrade to the current route. The council have also proposed a link road from the A65 between Rawdon and Horsforth which would cost £50m.

A public consultation will begin on 23 November and end on 24 January. Following the consultation, construction is due to start in 2019.

Councillor Richard Lewis told the BBC that a new link road would help tackle congestion, delays and the use of rat-runs on the current road network.

“We have a need for better road and rail links and a link road is clearly one we can do most easily and see the benefits,” he said.

“Anyone who uses the A65 knows how congested it is. These proposals can make a considerable difference.”Proposed road options to Leeds Bradford Airport (source: Leeds City Council)

The airport welcomed a record number of travellers in August, with around 400,000 passengers passing through in a month.

Leeds Bradford serves 60 destinations flying to over 20 countries with 10 major airlines.
