What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Sands End. We go there on holiday every year. The beach with the kids, the moors, the views and the fish and chips in Whitby. What a combination!

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

The Lyke Wake Walk. Crossing the Yorkshire Moors – 42 miles in less than 24 hours. It will be done by this summer!

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

The most memorable was my wedding meal at Harewood House, for obvious reasons. The best, probably the Pipe and Glass in South Dalton. Top notch relaxed dining.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

I like to think I tell it as it is.

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

Oliver Cromwell is supposed to have slept at our next door neighbours before the battle of Marston Moor in 1644

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

As an iconic product, Stainless Steel. To think that product at the time, it put Yorkshire on the global stage. The Bowie knife so synonymous with the wild frontier came from Sheffield. As a person it’s hard to better William Wilberforce – his family still live in the county.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

Cycling up Tan Hill in the cold and freezing rain in training for our annual charity Pedalthon. It’s the closest I’ve come to frostbite in April! On that note it could be a touch sunnier, grey days do dampen enthusiasm. This year’s Pedalthon takes place in May and all funds raised will go to LandAid, which supports disadvantaged and vulnerable youngsters in the UK.

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

A Premiership football club from Manchester (but not United!)

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

Cricket, although it does make for a great day out – Yorkshire weather permitting!
