Bed manufacturer gets comfortable with factory expansion

A BED manufacturer and wholesaler has bought a 17,000 sq ft manufacturing facility to enable it to increase its production capacity.

Dewsbury-based Shire Beds has acquired the site adjacent to its existing factory on Netherfield Road, supported by funding from Royal Bank of Scotland.

Established in 1997, Shire Beds is a family business run by founder Safdar Hussain, his daughter Fara Butt and son-in-law Sajid Butt.

The company manufactures and supplies a wide range of beds, mattresses and headboards for wholesale to retailers across the UK and Ireland.

Fara Butt, marketing director of Shire Beds, said: “The acquisition of the new premises is a key step for our company and will support our ongoing growth strategy.

“We have acquired a building which is situated behind our existing factory and we plan to join the two to create a much larger ‘L’ shaped facility.  Once complete it will enable us to increase our production levels by 40-50%.

“Shire Beds has seen growth of 20% year on year in the last two years and hope to achieve close to that this year. The new, larger manufacturing facility will enable us to continue to improve our production and output efficiency and meet growing demand.

“It was very important to us that we were able to keep the business in Dewsbury and grow from here, so we are thrilled that we have been able to buy the neighbouring building and can join it on to our existing premises.”

Lindsay Crooks, senior relationship m anager at Royal Bank of Scotland said:”We are pleased that we have been able to support Mr Hussain, Sajid and Fara at Shire Beds with funding for their expansion. Acquiring the neighbouring building is a brilliant solution to their need for extra capacity.”
