Wates hands over Wellington Place building

WATES CONSTRUCTION has handed over the keys to 6 Wellington Place in Leeds, built to meet the heightened demand for prime office space in the city centre.

Law firm Squire Patton Boggs took 32,000 sq ft, cloud computing and security firm Netpremacy, who have taken 5,000 sq ft and Equifax have moved in.

Sky Betting & Gaming are also moving 750 staff to two floors in the building.

Developed by MEPC, the £23.8m building is set to accommodate the growing appetite for commercial space in Leeds, which saw average rents for Grade A office space rise by 4% in 2015.

The six-storey development comprises 104,000 sq ft of office space.

The space was let within four weeks of practical completion, which the developer says signals a strong resurgence of confidence and promise in the city’s economy.

Wates’ work to deliver commercial office space at Wellington Place also currently includes Building Five, which will comprise 75,000 sq ft of office provision. Completion is scheduled for later this year.

Paul Dodsworth, business unit director for Wates Construction Yorkshire & North East, said: “As Leeds’ commercial market continues to flourish, a strong business hub is emerging in the city, which is mirrored through our delivery of Building Six at Wellington Place.

“We have worked closely in partnership with MEPC and have enabled the developer to realise their vision of creating a modern space that is set to transform the commercial offering in Leeds.”

Building work started in March 2015.
