Unlawful dismissal claim costs Leeds United £330,000

LEEDS UNITED has been forced to award former assistant to Brian McDermott £331,426 in damages over an unlawful dismissal claim.

Former LUFC assistant manager Nigel Gibbs left the club in July 2014, just two months after boss Briant McDermott.

He said he had been demoted to working with the under 18s and under 21s after a fall out with David Hockaday.

According to reports, at the hearing in London yesterday Mr Gibbs said that chairman and club owner Massimo Cellino had told him he could do cleaning work around Elland Road.

The ex-Watford man resigned and is now the assistant head of player development at Tottenham.

This comes just weeks after former education and welfare officer Lucy Ward successfully brought a tribunal against the club . She claimed she was fired after 17 years in the role due to her relationship with Neil Redfearn.

Cellino had apparently told chairman of Leeds Ladies FC, Gary Cooper: “Football is no place for women, they should be in the bedroom or the beauticians.”
