Family-run construction firm completes flower firm HQ expansion

FAMILY-RUN construction firm Hobson and Porter has completed a major warehouse expansion for floral supplier JZ Flowers, as part of a trio of projects they have worked on recently.

The firm completed a 135,000 sq ft extension to the company’s Newport headquarters. It was part of the fifth phase of the “impressive” redevelopment, increasing existing space by a third.

Operating from its headquarters on Malmo Road, North Hull, Hobson and Porter is growing rapidly, and also completed two other projects.

The first was a £630,000 redevelopment of JCT600’s Volkswagen dealership in Hull.

The 11-car showroom was almost doubled in size.

Paul McKenzie, project manager for Hull-based Hobson and Porter, said: “The refurbishment as a whole has run on schedule and has been completed on time. The dealership continued to operate as usual throughout the duration of the works. Hobson and Porter JCT600

“Working in a live environment can be difficult for all parties but thanks to our experience in these kinds of works, we managed to keep disruption to a minimum whilst on site.”

Hobson and Porter also completed the refurbishment of Pocklington Arts Centre, on behalf of the council, Arts Council England, Pocklington Arts Centre and the Friends of Pocklington Arts Centre.

Pete Shaw, contract manager for Hobson and Porter, said: “We were delighted to be able to showcase this project to students, demonstrating how Hobson and Porter undertakes different types of work alongside one another in a live building environment.

“The works, which had an overall value in excess of half a million pounds, were brought to a successful completion on time, with no complications or safety issues.”
