Top 10 reads this week – massive acquisitions, job cuts and more…

MAJOR acquisitions, as well as a sprinkling of commercial property, job cuts and investment have informed our weekly top 10.

Anything Endless is always a crowd pleaser, and this week was no exception.

Topping the list of TheBusinesDesk.com’s top stories this week for Yorkshire, was the news that communications and marketing business Adare acquired another major player in the market, Hull-based Colt. It seems that Endless is evolving from its turnaround investor roots, taking on a role in the fast growth and lofty ambitions of Adare.

This was seconded by a latecomer to the list: the announcement that a £1.76bn turnover Chinese firm is acquiring Pyronix, a specialist alarm manufacturer, a major move as we attempt to attract more international inward investment in Yorkshire, and going against the grain of a slowdown in the Chinese slowdown.

The last of our top three for the week was the ongoing saga at Leeds-headquartered supermarket Asda. Sticking out like a sore thumb in the rest of the Wal-Mart group’s international operations, the embattled grocer announced the seventh quarterly sales drop in a row . This led to some very imaginative metaphors from analysts , with the basic conclusion that Asda needs to “get it’s mojo back.”

Elsewhere, the announcement of a major residential site in Leeds tickled our audiences, as did that of a £125m climate innovation district. Read our interview with the developer behind the scheme here.

Perhaps because summer is in the air and holidays are imminent,
