Restaurateur faces prison sentence for manslaughter

A COURT has reached a verdict on the Yorkshire restaurateur, accused of manslaughter over the death of a customer.

David Wilson went into anaphylactic shock due to peanut allergies and died in January 2014 after eating a takeaway from The Indian Garden in Easingwold, North Yorkshire.

Mohammed Zaman, 52, of Aylesham Court, Huntington, has been on trial for manslaughter after it was found that his restaurants had been using a cheaper ground nut mix, which contained peanuts, instead of almond powder which is usually used.

The court heard that Mr Wilson’s food had been labelled, indicating there were no nuts in the takeaway, despite the use of the ground nut mix.

Now restaurant owner Mr Zaman has been found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence at Teesside Crown Court and faces a six year prison sentence.

Mr Zaman owned six restaurants in Yorkshire, but was £300,000 in debt by the time the news broke according to Sky News.
