Major deal for AMP as manufacturer makes move

A MAJOR letting at the Advanced Manufacturing park (AMP) to grant-backed Cambridge University spin-out manufacturer Metalysis has been hailed as a major boost for South Yorkshire.

The company, which works to transform the international metals industry in the production of titanium, tantalum, metal and alloy powders using a low-cost and greener electrolysis process, is to take the 22,000 sq ft high specification, modern warehouse space at the AMP site to create a process facility.

Metalysis, an investor and grant-backed Cambridge University spin out, which recently secured £20m as it sets out plans for an initial public offering (IPO) to float on the stock exchange, is looking to employ 20 initially at the new process site, with plans to double this number over time.

The deal was brokered by CPP on behalf of its client Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC).

CPP partner, Ed Norris said: “This is a significant deal for our client RMBC, and great news for the local and regional economy here in South Yorkshire.”

Unit 4 at the AMP forms part of the R-evolution development, a designated Enterprise Zone site with incentives to benefit new occupiers to the park, building on the scheme’s success in providing flexible business space geared towards high-value advanced manufacturers.

Mr Norris said: “The AMP, ideally situated in the heart of the UK, is designed to accommodate specialist advanced engineering and manufacturing companies and we are very proud to see it fast becoming the UK centre of excellence for advanced manufacturing. Unsurprisingly demand for space in the park continues to remain very strong, and as a result commands the highest capital values in the region.”

The unit leased by Metalysis is one of two speculatively purchased by Rotherham Council.

Rotherham Council’s Denise Lelliott said the success in leasing the buildings demonstrated a continuing high level of business confidence and strong demand for high-quality commercial property in Rotherham.

She said: “Rotherham is continually evolving, attracting world class investment and growing its manufacturing base by providing quality commercial opportunities for the people and businesses of the borough. From our award-winning business centres to the UK’s Premier Advanced Manufacturing Park, businesses are choosing to come to a borough that is totally committed to manufacturing.

“Metalysis is an example of a real Yorkshire success story, with a well-established base already in the Dearne Valley Park, and we are delighted that the company has chosen to launch its new flagship technology centre at the Rotherham’s AMP, the UK’s premier advanced manufacturing park.”

The AMP is recognised internationally for its innovative research and advanced manufacturing processes, and has already attracted world leading high technology companies including Rolls-Royce, The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing , Nuclear AMRC, AMRC Training Centre and TWI.

CPP was joint agent with Colliers.
