City’s creative scene showcased with launch of night market

A NIGHT market is being launched at the heart of Bradford’s West End, showcasing the best of local crafts, street food and alternative fashions.

The monthly markets will be held in the BrewHaus and Stein Bierkeller bars next to the Alhambra Theatre off Great Horton Road – with the first one launching this evening.

They will feature a broad range of unique, niche goods including arts and crafts, jewellery, clothing, handmade and continental gifts, records and musical items and street food, with entertainment throughout the evening.

The free events are modelled on similar markets held successfully at BrewHaus venues in Huddersfield and Lincoln, which attract around 50 stallholders, with hundreds of visitors passing through the doors each month.

The night markets will replace the Sunday vintage markets which have been held at the venues since the back end of last year. There will also be opportunities for pop-up markets at many of the big events throughout the year.

General manager Charlotte Felton said: “We started out with the Sunday markets over the festive season, coinciding with the opening of The Broadway centre to give visitors an alternative shopping experience. We’ve now built up a fabulous community of talented local artists, makers and vendors and a steady flow of regular customers.

“Now spring is here, with the lighter nights, we’re ready to move it up a gear and start with our night markets, which are extremely popular wherever they are held. These are community events and we’ve chatted with the stallholders and customers and most people expressed a preference for an evening market, particularly over the summer months.”

The Night Markets will take place on the last Friday of every month. Stalls are free for local traders and entrance to the markets for customers is also free.
