Your top ten reads this week – Administration for engineering firm; Rainmaker Awards shortlist unveiled; Strike at food factory and more

Administrators being called in to an engineering firm and the shortlist for our very own annual Rainmaker Awards were your top reads of the last week.

ACME Engineering fell into administration after it was unable to weather a downturn in the industry. The Doncaster-based business suffered financial difficulties due to the knock on effect in the oil and gas supply chain and uncertainty in the steel market, and 17 staff were made redundant.

TheBusinessDesk.com’s readers were also keen to find out which companies have made the shortlist for our upcoming Rainmaker Awards in July. Read the full shortlist here.

Other news that caught your eye this week included another administration, a group of care home operators, which has left 381 jobs at risk.

Meanwhile, there was good news for a £64m caravan holiday home manufacturer based in Beverley, which has been acquired by private equity investor CBPE Capital.

Motor retailer JCT600 was in bullish mood earlier this week after seeing revenues surge past the £1bn barrier, but trouble was brewing at Sheffield-based Pennine Foods, owned by the 2 Sisters Group, as 400 staff went on strike over contract changes.

Popular property stories included the acquisition of a Grade II listed city centre building and work getting underway at Steel City House in Sheffield, while in sport, the takeover of Bradford City Football Club by two German investors caught your attention.
