Awards: Brewery toasts to success; Accountant wins place on Virgin Media judging panel; Energy firm up for green accolade; and more

YORKSHIRE’S Little Valley Brewery has been announced as a winner at the Best of Organic Market (BOOM) awards at a ceremony held at Borough Market Hall in London.

The BOOM awards celebrate innovative organic products and Little Valley Brewery’s Vanilla Porter was selected as winner of the Alcohol Beverages: Beer category.

Vanilla Porter has an ABV of 4.5% and is a rich and lightly roasted dark coloured ale with subtle hints of vanilla and liquorice, using real vanilla pods and ground vanilla.

Sue Cooper, co-owner of Little Valley Brewery, said: “To be celebrated and recognised as a winner at the BOOM awards is a huge achievement for Little Valley Brewery, we couldn’t be happier. Winning this specialist award is a huge success and further supports the continued hard work and investment which we put into brewing our beers. We use traditional techniques to create original beers and pride ourselves on our organic beer selection which includes the Vanilla Porter.”

Colin Glass of WGN ACCOUNTANT Colin Glass from WGN has been chosen by Virgin Media’s VOOM, to be one of 12 professionals to act as judges for a major competition.

The business competition starts with a 29 hour “Pitchathon”, for over 160 businesses.

Mr Glass said: “I am delighted to have been selected as a judge for the Virgin Media VOOM 2016 competition to help Sir Richard Branson and his other judges find the cream of entrepreneurs from across the UK and Ireland.”

VOOM is open to small and medium-sized businesses with the aim to highlight their success, give them a major boost in confidence and demonstrate the invaluable contribution they make to the economy.

The winners of the competition will share a prize of £1million.

SALTAIRE-based community energy firm Switch2 has been shortlisted for the BusinessGreen Leaders Awards 2016 alongside fellow finalists such as the National Trust, the Body Shop, and Aldi.

The firm has gained recognition for its innovative new energy smart Incontro technology.

The three-in-one, pay-as you-go smart billing and energy control and monitoring system has been shortlisted in the Energy Efficiency Project of the Year category.

Incontro helps developers and landlords to reduce debt risk and improve environmental performance of district heating schemes. The technology also makes it simpler for residents to pay for their energy and control and monitor their energy usage.

Yorkshire Entrepreneur Awards winnerA PAIR of entrepreneurs have been recognised for their achievements during a recent awards ceremony.

Emily Falcus from Bow Baskets was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year at this year’s Yorkshire Society Entrepreneur Awards, which recognise the achievements made by entrepreneurs and community leaders from across the county.

Bow Baskets specialises in production of personalised hampers, designed and handmade for the corporate and individual client.

Ms Falcus was joined by Bec Gilray from Do You Punctuate who was the runner up in the same category which was sponsored by Entrepreneurial Spark. Do You Punctuate is an ecommerce, print to demand greeting card business.

Both are involved with the Entrepreneurial Spark people accelerator programme in Leeds which is backed by partners NatWest, KPMG and EMC. The programme offers free office space in its Hatchery located at The Headrow, Leeds for early stage and growing businesses seeking support from a network of mentors and fellow businesses.
