Verdict awaited on green holiday park promising 160 jobs
PROPOSALS for a ‘green’ holiday village which is promising 160 jobs are set to go up before councillors this month. Landowner and local farmer Alan Petch submitted planning for the proposed Angrove Country Park between Great Ayton and Stokesley in North Yorkshire last October.
The plans went through modifications following public consultation with a phased development timeline expanded to eight years.
The plans will be considered on 23 June.
Angrove Country Park will feature 179 chalets in an environmentally sustainable development with fishing ponds and a central hub with a café and cycle hire.
Situated on the Coast to Coast cycle route, the development will also help to ensure that the Endeavour Way, a much anticipated route for cyclists between Great Ayton and Stokesley, becomes a reality.
Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, has lent his support to the scheme. He said it was: “a quality development that helps to promote the cycling offer of Yorkshire and looks to attract visitors all year round would be a great fit for many of the people who are coming to Yorkshire.”
If approved, building work could start ready for opening in 2017.
Planning consultant, Steve Hesmondhalgh, who has advised Mr Petch on his proposal for Angrove Country Park, said: “We have worked closely with council planners and the proposal is better for having been through that collaborative process.”
He added: “The scheme that will shortly go to planning committee is an excellent form of farm diversification that will deliver both tourism jobs and much needed accommodation for cyclists and other visitors to the area.”
