Car auction company to drive growth with relocation

A LONG established motor auction business has relocated from Bawtry to a seven-acre refurbished site in Rotherham as it accelerates its expansion plans.

Bawtry Motor Auctions, which has rebranded to Motor Auction Group (MAG), has moved into a seven acre facility at Carr House on Greasborough Road.

MAG has increased its capacity from 400 vehicles to over 500 vehicles per week, with a dedicated 15,000 sq ft auction house which has undergone a full restoration.

The move was handled by the building consultancy services team at the Yorkshire offices of Knight Frank and BHP Consultancy.

Daniel Green, partner at Knight Frank, said: “We were appointed by Bawtry Motor Auctions to manage the acquisition of a new site including lease agreements surrounding the company’s planned move, which was a substantial body of work.

“It included an acquisition survey to determine the new property’s condition and identify any significant issues or repair liabilities either during the term or in respect of dilapidations on lease termination.

“We advised on lease repair, reinstatement and decoration covenants contained within the lease to mitigate the client’s liability.”

He added: “The schedule was prepared to record the condition of the premises at the start of the term and we arranged planning applications for change of use and new signage. Finally, we undertook design and contract administration services for the internal refurbishment and alteration works to bring the premises to Motor Auction Group’s operational requirements.”

Motor Auction Group initiated the move after operating as Bawtry Motor Auctions since 1947, selling as many as 300 vehicles per week from its former site at Scott Lane in Bawtry.

James Tomlinson, managing director of MAG, said: “The company has grown considerably over the past few years and we knew that there was a need to expand as we aimed for sales of more than 300 cars per week.

“It was clear to us that the Bawtry site was no longer sufficient and we spotted an opportunity to acquire the Rotherham site. There was a lot of work to secure the site and to make the changes required so we appointed Knight Frank who worked alongside Mark Roberts, our business development manager from BHP Consultancy, to organise the logistics and practicalities of the relocation.”
