Waste management business spends £10m on facility creating 40 jobs
A LEEDS waste management business has acquired a 200,000 sq ft warehouse in which it will invest £10m.
Associated Waste Management is converting the Stourton site into a depot as part of expansion plans, and is hoping to create 40 jobs.
£5m will be spent on recycling equipment, with another £2.5m on collection vehicles.
AWM has signed a £2.5m deal with Aviva for the Valley Farm Road site advised by law firm Gordons.
Tim Shapcott, commercial director, AWM, commented: “The Stourton facility acquisition is the result of a number of significant contract awards for AWM over the past 24 months, culminating in the need for greater levels of innovation and processing capacity.
“It is a key element of our continued expansion plans, so we are very pleased that it has been successfully completed.”
AWM buys and processes waste, using non-recyclable items for energy recovery, has a turnover of £45m and employs in excess of 250 full time staff. The company was founded more than 20 years ago by John Brooksbank and has its headquarters on Gelderd Road.
