David Haigh hires Wikileaks lawyer for UN claims

FORMER managing director at Leeds United, David Haigh, has appointed the lawyer of Julian Assange to take the case over his imprisonment forward.

The former GFH general counsel has hired Melinda Taylor his unlawful imprisonment claims to the United Nations, according to The Lawyer.

Mr Haigh, who was made managing director at the club in 2013, before Massimo Cellino acquired the club, was arrested in May 2014.

He spent nearly two years in prison on charges of embezzlement and fraud against his former employer Gulf Finance House.

Mr Haigh was due to be released in November 2015, but further charges of cyber slander were brought against him, prolonging his incarceration to March this year.

He said on his return that it had been a “horrific” ordeal, saying he was “surrounded by depravity” and tortured in the prison.

Earlier in the year, Mr Haigh’s case was taken up by Human Rights Watch, an influential organisation which demanded charges against Mr Haigh for cyber crimes be dropped.
