MD bringing Jacuzzi into the 21st century

“WE’RE looking at more modern technology that can be applied to tubs,” said Duncan Simcox, managing director at Jacuzzi UK

Headquartered in Leeds the company is celebrating its 60th birthday this year.

The brand may be synonymous with hot tubs – all Jacuzzis are hot tubs, though not all hot tubs are Jacuzzis – but being an iconic brand doesn’t mean you should be complacent, Mr Simcox said.

He said: “It is an iconic brand and the fundamentals of hydrotherapy are set in their ways, but we see how technology in other areas is moving forward. People can control things in their home remotely. We want people to control the temperature of their tub from their office, so it’s ready when they come home.”

Reclining seats, remote controlled technology and smartphone apps are bringing Jacuzzi into the 21st century, but leisure is not the only use for a hot tub, some may be surprised to know.

“All our jets are fully patented and there is a full medical report from the University of Verona [Italy was the spiritual birthplace of the Jacuzzi brand] and in the States. We’ve proven the benefits it can bring from a medical point of view.”

The brand originated in California in 1915 when seven of the Jacuzzi brothers, led by Giocondo launched Jacuzzi and Brothers, manufacturing wooden propellers for military uses, but the business has come a long way since then.

Mr Simcox said that customers are around 75% looking for a Jacuzzi for leisure purposes, with the rest leaning towards the medical benefits, which has led to a partnership with Leeds Rhinos for players’ injuries – and we can’t see anyone complaining.
