Historic hotel acquired by family-owned investment company

A 150 YEAR-OLD Huddersfield hotel has been sold to a family-owned investment company.

The Durker Roods Hotel, originally built in 1870 in Meltham, has been acquired by Harimoor Hospitality Ltd for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, with funding to support the deal provided by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Harimoor also owns The Welcome Inn at Rotherham.

Jay Patel, director of Harimoor Hospitality Limited, commented: “Durker Roods Hotel has been thoroughly refurbished in recent years, and its picturesque scenery makes it the ideal place to record the special moments in life.

“This year, it was nominated for the ‘Best Wedding Venue of the Year in Yorkshire’. We will look to enhance that reputation and deliver the highest level of service to our customers.”

Nick Milner, senior relationship manager at the Royal Bank of Scotland said: “Jay Patel and his family have a great track record of success as seen with their ownership of the Welcome Inn in Rotherham.

“They will be extending their expertise into the running of the Durker Roods Hotel in Meltham and we are very pleased to help them expand their business operations.”

Peter Bean, director, Hotels Agency, Colliers International in Leeds who completed the sale, added: “It’s encouraging to see that the uncertainty surrounding the EU referendum decision doesn’t seem to be having an impact on our ability to complete deals.

“The hotels market in Yorkshire has been buoyant for some time and we see no signs of this changing in the coming months.”
