Leeds Digital Job Fair returns “bigger and better”

ENTREPRENEUR Amy De-Balsi has launched the Leeds Digital Job Fair 2.0 following the success of her inaugural event.

Ms De-Balsi’s company Herd, Northern technology and digital jobs board, has launched the event for a second year in a row, having attracted 1,300 attendees last year.

Google, William Hill, Callcredit Sky Betting & Gaming as well as Provident Financial will be attending again, having had a presence at the first event in February 2016.

50 companies are expected to attend on the day, organised by online jobs board Herd with support from Leeds City Council, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds BID, First Direct Arena and Tech North.

Herd founder Amy De-Balsi said she believed Leeds Digital Job Fair 2.0 would set a new standard for large-scale tech recruitment events in the North.

She spoke to theBusinessDesk.com saying: “Everyone is getting really confident which is lovely. We’ve set up Slack, which is basically an intranet or whatsapp channel set up for the wider city, with 72 directors already online talking to each other.

“We need to show there is a community here – then you can start looking wider issues. Silicon Valley happened because there was a community there, and we all have the same top three: Promotion, skills and investment.

“The digital sector hasn’t had a major wobble, the only thing of concern is that there is not enough tech talent now. We were pulling it over from Europe but now that is uncertain – that is where organisations like Tech North come it to do the lobbying on our behalf.

“There is a method to our madness at Herd and we are the only people doing a job fair an arena across the North. We need to do something big and bold to draw people in

“Leeds BID, Leeds Beckett, the First Direct arena, Tech North; it just works, we all have the same agenda but with slightly different takes on it.”
