Gym and retail development in Leeds gets underway

WORK has begun on a gym and retail development on Regent Street in Leeds, which was formerly a car dealership.

Harris CM has started work on site as part of a £3.6m contract that will see the mixed-use scheme get underway.

Harris CM is building an 18,500 sq ft site for Pure Gym, as well as two retail units of 16,500 and 7,500 sq ft – to be occupied by Aldi and Poundworld.

The site was previously home to Reg Vardy’s Renault dealership. Gregory acquired the site in May 2016, with plans to invest £7.5m in the development.

Operators are expected to take over their respective sites by the end of the year.

Danny Mulqueen of Harris CM said: “We are delighted to secure our first project with Gregory Property Group, which has an outstanding track record in delivering sustainable property developments across the North of England.

“Our commitment towards providing best value solutions for a diverse range of clients continues to pay dividends and we are particularly pleased to reinforce our presence in our West Yorkshire heartland on this scheme. We are looking forward to working in collaboration with architecture practice, The Harris Partnership and engineering consultants JPG, which are both extremely well-respected in the region.”

Harris Construction employs more than 50 people, and is predicted to turn over more than £50m this year.
