People: PwC manager makes RSM move; IOD makes ambassador appointment; Digital agency enjoys growth; and more

AUDIT tax and consulting firm RSM has appointed Mark Wood as an associate director in the consulting practice.

Mr Wood, who is based in Leeds, joins RSM from PwC where he worked as a senior manager within the risk assurance team for nearly 13 years.

He previously worked at Deloitte specialising in the public and financial services sectors. Mr Wood has also worked within the NHS, including high profile engagements, such as the Keogh review and the capability and capacity assessments of Clinical Commissioning Groups for NHS England.

Mr Wood is a qualified accountant and has extensive experience in risk assurance, risk management and governance, including internal audit, financial due diligence and programme assurance. In addition, he brings a range of specialist expertise in the health, charities, central government, education and social housing sectors, as well as the financial services sector.

In his new role, Mr Wood will enhance the Governance and Risk Consulting Service Group at RSM and will focus on strengthening the service offering to support more clients in the North. He will also provide governance and risk advice to a large portfolio of clients.

Paul Doherty, IoD ambassadorTHE Institute of Directors (IoD) has boosted its fast-growing portfolio of branch ambassadors with the appointment of South Yorkshire businessman Paul Doherty.

The ambassador network comprises high-profile business leaders who represent and promote the IoD in their area and grow the region’s voice on national policy matters.

Mr Doherty, who is based in Deepcar near Sheffield, has held board-level roles in the private and public sectors and has a track record of managing business change programmes and new business models. His previous employers include Liberata, Northgate Information Solutions, Kendric Ash and Mitie Group.

He is currently managing director of transformation and change management specialist Doherty Solutions and a director of the Steel City Schools Partnership (SCSP), an education academy trust.

He said: “For me, the strength of the IoD has always been the quality of its networking and events, which enable people to hear from specialists while transferring knowledge and experience. I also hope to use my Academy experience to highlight how we can shape the role that education plays in meeting the needs of business.”

Ucan Recycling appointmentBRADFORD-based IT recycling specialist Ucan Recycling has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Anne-Marie Parkinson.

Ms Parkinson will take on the new role of office and compliance manager to support the Community Interest Company (CIC) with its continued growth.

Established in 2010, Ucan provides a free IT collection service for businesses, schools, universities and local authorities throughout Yorkshire and beyond. All ‘redundant’ equipment is then either processed for reuse or recycling ensuring 100% diversion from landfill.

Director and founder Rob Seal said: “We are enjoying a strong trading period despite difficult economic conditions, which has seen us grow to a £1.2m turnover business. We’re therefore delighted to have been able to create a new role which concentrates solely on the management of compliance and other office administration.
