Family bed manufacturer adds 60,000 sq ft with latest investment

A FAMILY-RUN bed manufacturer is settled into its new Dewsbury factory and is now adding 60,000 sq ft to its production facilities.

Shire Beds bought 17,000 sq ft of space near its existing factory earlier this year and is expanding even further after a funding deal with the bank.

The 60,000 sq ft is the third building Shire Beds now occupies on Netherfield Road, adding up to 100,000 sq ft of space and a £2.5m investment, which was supported by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Founder Safdar Hussain along with his daughter and son-in-law Fara and Sajid Butt will be investing in roll-up mattress products at its new site

Fara Butt, marketing director of Shire Beds, said: “The business is going from strength to strength and as a result our requirements for production space are increasing. I am thrilled with the new premises. The additional space will enable us to continue to grow the business and will provide us with the opportunity to develop and enhance our portfolio so that we can offer customers a more comprehensive range of products.

“The space we acquired earlier on this year has already enabled us to increase output by 40% and now with the addition of the new building, our production capability is set to double.”

Established in 1997, the company manufactures and supplies a wide range of beds, mattresses and headboards for wholesale to retailers across the UK and Ireland.

Lindsay Crooks, senior relationship Manager at Royal Bank of Scotland said: “Shire Beds has achieved significant growth during the last few years and I am pleased that we have been able to support the company with funding for their latest acquisition.”
