86 jobs to be cut at fish processing business
86 JOBS are facing the cut at Icelandic Seachill, which processes fish in Grimsby, following a major contract loss.
The company, which owns The Saucy Fish Co, lost a major supply contract with Marks & Spencer in June 2016.
It marked the end of a 30 year relationship with the upmarket grocer.
The contract was said to be worth between £50m and £60m, and the resulting loss will reportedly see Icelandic’s deli site close in March 2017, with outstanding work transferred to remaining sites.
The company employs 1,200 in the town.
A spokesperson for Icelandic Seachill said: “We appreciate this is a difficult and sensitive time for our employees, and our priority as a business is to support those affected by M&S’s decision.”
This is not the first time the company has faced employment woes. Earlier this year, Icelandic Seachill was accused of paying for wage bill increases (due to the introduction of a national living wage) by planning job cuts.
