Sizzling celebrations lined up for Sausage and Cider Festival
A SAUSAGE and Cider Festival is taking place this weekend to mark the first anniversary of one of Bradford’s biggest new nightlife complexes.
The Bank Holiday weekend event will be held at the Stein Bierkeller and Brew Haus bars, next to the Alhambra Theatre off Great Horton Road at the heart of Bradford’s West End leisure quarter.
Starting at 11am daily, from Friday Aug 26 to Monday Aug 29, the free entry event will feature an extensive range of ciders from across the UK and from local breweries.
There will be sausages, from local pork and apple creations to Bavarian-style frankfurters, to complement the regular Saturday night Oompah party in the Bierkeller.
The celebrations will feature a barbecue on the rooftop terrace and children’s face-painting throughout the weekend with supervised under-18s welcome until 9pm.
Sunday night will see a Fun Time Casino from 8pm in the Bierkeller.
There will also be a selection of stalls from the monthly night market, featuring the best of local creative and vintage vendors, offering unique, niche goods, including arts and crafts, jewellery, clothing, handmade and continental gifts.
Doors opened in August last year to the £1.2m development next to the Alhambra Theatre. It saw the historic Old Windsor Baths off Great Horton Road, transformed into four vibrant new venues as part of the ongoing Bradford City Centre renaissance.
The venture created a total of 52 new jobs across the Stein Bierkeller, Brew Haus bar, Circle Nightclub and Tikio party venue, while preserving and transforming the run-down building.
Tokyo Industries director Nigel Holliday said: “It’s been a very exciting year, with a few challenges and lots of big successes. What’s been really special for us about this particular project is that we’ve been involved in the whole Bradford revival from the start of the journey and have been able to do our bit towards bringing this great city back to life.
“We’ve really been made to feel a part of it all, working closely with Bradford’s business, creative and leisure communities. We’ve particularly enjoyed participating in some amazing city-wide events like the prestigious Bradford Literature Festival and the unique Drunken Film Festival as well as all the top-class productions at the local theatres and museums and sponsoring the Revival Zone at last year’s Bradford Business Conference.
“Of course, there’s still lots to do, but Bradford has already changed massively since we opened our doors a year ago and we’re really looking forward to getting involved in the next phase of the revival. Do come along and celebrate with us this weekend.”
