My Yorkshire: James Baird, Dynamic Networks

James Baird is managing director of Dynamic Networks Group, a Leeds-based IT, networks, security and automation systems firm.

Where do you live/where are you from?
I was born in Leeds and grew up in Horsforth. I’m living there again at the minute, and currently house hunting.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?
I love visiting Whitby and Scarborough. It brings back happy memories of trips to the seaside with my family when I was growing up.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?
Gliding – I’ve always wanted to do a solo flight.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?
Definitely The Star at Harome – fantastic atmosphere and food to match.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?
Probably my straight talking. People who meet me quickly realise that I talk candidly and can be very direct. It’s the way my mind works, and I like people to know where they stand with me.

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.
Horsforth lays claim (along with several other places, it has to be said) to being the biggest village in the UK.

What/who is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?
The Rhubarb Triangle. I love the fact that Yorkshire is recognised nationally for something as quirky as rhubarb!

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?
I’d have to say the roads. You just can’t get anywhere quickly enough.

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?
It would be London’s cosmopolitan attitude to equality.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?
The fact that so many people in Yorkshire think the town, village or city they live in is the best place on earth. They can’t all be the best, but I admire the Yorkshire pride!
