North Yorkshire establishment crowned Regional Pub of the Year

A NORTH YORKSHIRE pub landlord is “chuffed” at his establishment being crowned Regional Pub of the Year and named among the top 16 in the country in the Good Beer Guide.

The guide from the Campaign for Real Ale features a wide range of pubs from community-owned to micropubs in its search for the National Pub of the Year.

George and the Dragon in Hudswell has been selected as Yorkshire’s best pub and will now compete for the title of National Pub of the Year, which will be announced early next year.

National Pub of the Year co-ordinator Andrea Briers said: “You have to be a great pub to get featured in the Good Beer Guide and an absolutely fantastic pub to be named a Regional Pub of the Year – so whatever happens all the pubs should be extremely proud of themselves.

According to CAMRA, it was the country inn’s “fantastic panoramic views over the Swale valley”, the selection of Yorkshire brewery beers and the “homely” feel that pushed it into the top 16 pubs in the UK. Along with the fact the pub has it’s own community library, shop and allotments of course.

Landlord of the George and the Dragon pub, Stuart Miller said: “We’re really chuffed – we’re only a small pub in the dales so to win for the whole of Yorkshire is amazing!

“We take pride in our ales and even though we only offer five, we’re a friendly, nice, clean village pub,” he added.
