60 jobs created at York bar opening

BAR and restaurant The Botanist is opening in York creating 60 jobs, as the group continues its expansion in Yorkshire.

Operator The New World Trading Company, which is opening its 11th site in the historic city, has taken 5,000 sq ft on Stonegate.

The bar and restaurant will open in November, offering botanical cocktails, beers and ales as well as local gins. It is set to open a site in Sheffield in the next month, creating 100 jobs in the city.

The Botanist has existing sites in Manchester, Chester, Alderley Edge, Birmingham, Leeds, Newcastle, Marlow, Farnham, and Knutsford.

Ciara Appleton Mcdaid has been appointed as general manager to oversee the launch. With over 11 years of industry experience, Ciara will be joining from her previous role as designate general manager at The Botanist in Newcastle.

Chris Hill, chief Executive Officer at The New World Trading Company said: “We’re incredibly excited to bring The Botanist concept to York, as we feel the character and atmosphere of the city fits perfectly with the brand. It’s great to be able to bring so many jobs to the city and we’re delighted to already have Ciara on board as we begin the recruitment process.
