Rosettes for Michelin-starred restaurant and 5-star hotel

LEEDS’ only Michelin-starred restaurant The Man Behind the Curtain has been awarded three rosettes at the AA Hospitality Awards.

The Grand Hotel and Spa, York has also been awarded three rosettes.

Named from a quote from The Wizard of Oz and located above Flannels clothes store, The Man Behind the Curtain is the brainchild of Michael O’Hare.

AA said its minimalist style and Cuban-heeled chefs were “idiosyncratic”

It recommended the 10-course tasting menu, although a shorter Menu Rapide is available at lunch.

It said the restaurant’s ‘hand massaged’ octopus with caper lemon butter and paprika emulsion was “fabulous”. Sea urchin bolognese, black cod with dashi, veal sweetbreads and a milk chocolate mousse to finish were some of the stand out dishes served.

Mr O’Hare is set to open a new restaurant at Manchester’s National Football Museum later this year, called The Rabbit in the Moon, after Ryagn Giggs and Gary Neville’s GG Hospitality take over tghe museum’s food offering from 1 October.

Yorkshire’s only five-star hotel is described as “luxurious” by the AA, with a nod to head chef Craig Atchinson.
