People: New partner for capital allowance firm; Accountancy firm grows; Trio check in to York hotel

HARROGATE-based Stuart Rivers Associates has promoted Jamie Wheldon to partner.

Mr Wheldon joined the firm in 2015 bringing more than 20 years’ experience in property and finance.

Stuart Rivers Associates is a firm of capital allowances consultants based in Harrogate covering the UK and Europe. The company works with accountants, tax advisers, solicitors, investors, developers and others to maximise capital allowance tax savings.

Capital allowances are a legitimate form of tax relief relevant for virtually every business as well as investors in commercial property.

Stuart Rivers, who founded the firm 23 years ago, said: “Jamie has made a positive impact and has introduced a large number of private clients in particular to the firm.”

Garbutt and Elliott payroll teamACCOUNTANCY firm Garbutt + Elliott has strengthened its payroll team with two senior appointments.

Sarah Ashton, director and head of payroll, and Julie Gunnell, payroll manager, have joined the department to grow and develop the firm’s service and offering.

With 18 years of experience in audit and compliance, Ms Ashton’s role will focus around strategy, team growth and development, alongside procedures covering implementation, monitoring and delivering improvements.

Julie Gunnell, former Lord Mayor of York, has over 15 years of experience in the sector and has provided payroll services to a broad range of clients including several charities and third sector organisations, and has a keen understanding of payroll legislation.

Ms Ashton said: “The team at Garbutt + Elliott has a wide-reaching knowledge and with our experience, I’m confident and excited about the further growth of the department and development of the company’s offering.”

York Monkbar Hotel appointmentsYORK’S Monkbar Hotel has appointed a trio of staff in the wake of its £3m refurbishment.

The new role of operations manager has been taken on by Matthew Gundy, while Gary Auker becomes the hotel’s first guest relations manager.

Finally, the reception team has welcomed Gonzalo Torres as their new manager.
