Landmark Harrogate hotel set for residential development

LEEDS developer Oakapple Group has bought the former four star Balmoral Hotel in Harrogate which it is converting into 14 luxury apartments with completion targeted for Summer 2017.

The finished scheme will provide a range of one and two bedroom apartments with on-site parking and landscaped gardens.

The property, on Franklin Mount near the International Centre, originally comprised three townhouses dating back to 1841, prior to it being converted into a luxury 23-bedroon hotel in the 1970s by a former chef to the royal family.

Group chairman of the Oakapple Group, Philip Taylor, said: “We are delighted to have secured this landmark building.

“The conversion has been designed to combine modern living with period charm with excellent amenity space provided by the gardens.”

The apartments are due to be released to the market later this year.
