People: Raft of hires for law firm’s education team; Bank welcomes regional director; Chamber appoints business growth manager

LEEDS law firm Stone King has strengthened its education team.

Helen Tucker joins Stone King as a partner in the firm’s independent schools team. She was previously head of the education sector division at Ashfords solicitors and head of legal for The Girls’ Day School Trust.

Ms Tucker advises independent schools on a range of issues including strategic review papers for trustees, complex safeguarding and child protection cases, educational negligence claims and allegations of discrimination.

Also joining the education team is Danielle Hainsby who qualified as a solicitor in 2014, having trained with the law firm Greenwoods. Before joining Stone King, she took up a lecturing post with professional education provider BPP where she taught on the legal practice course.

Her education work for Stone King ranges from advice on setting up academies to day-to-day operational issues. She will also assist education clients with matters relating to information law.

Stone King’s education team also welcomes trainee solicitors John Shaw and Deborah Camp.

Mr Shaw previously worked as a paralegal in the litigation department of a boutique private practice firm.  He will work on all forms of academy set-up and development and provide advice on governance and commercial law to the firm’s education clients.

Prior to joining Stone King, Ms Camp was a paralegal in the family team at Simpson Millar. Other new faces joining Stone King’s education division include paralegals Emily Clarke and Betül Guzel who joins from Linklaters.

Steve Mawdsley NatWestSTEVE MAWDSLEY has been appointed by NatWest as the new regional director for corporate coverage for the Yorkshire region.

He will be leading a team of nine relationship directors providing support and bespoke funding solutions to a variety of mid and large corporate companies across the region.

Mr Mawdsley has been working for NatWest and its sister bank the Royal Bank of Scotland since 2004. He most recently served as head of mid corporates for the bank in Manchester, supporting customers across the region and developing close ties with the North West business and professional communities.

He has also spent time as head of business development and as a large corporate relationship director.

Mark Smith Doncaster ChamberDONCASTER Chamber has appointed a new business growth manager.

Mark Smith has taken up the role following his most recent work as director of operations for a regional charity that supports children at risk.

He will oversee the Chamber’s international trade functions, Logistics Hub UK, training brokerage platform, Chamber services as well as looking after member businesses.

“The Chamber offers a lot of great services and we want to ensure members utilise the ones that are right for them and to make Doncaster an even better and stronger place to live and work,” he said.
