Flybe and Easyjet take off at two of Yorkshire’s airports

FLYBE and Easyjet have committed to Yorkshire’s airports with the announcement of a route from Doncaster Sheffield and a winter schedule from Leeds Bradford.

Flybe have launched a new Dublin route from the South Yorkshire airport increasing the opportunity for US transfers, replacing the current Stobart Air service, from 1 November 2016.

It will operate a flight five times a week under Flybe’s codeshare agreement with Aer Lingus.

Passengers can clear US immigration from Dublin, removing border checks in the US.

Steve Gill, chief executive of Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “This is welcome news for both business and leisure travellers, who enjoy visiting the Irish city and also to be able to extend the local option to travel to destinations in America and Canada via the onward connectivity this route offers.

“We are really pleased to see further growth and diversity in the routes offered by Flybe since their launch earlier this year. Dusseldorf, Chambery and now Dublin have been added to the original roster, making it 11 destinations available with Flybe from us.”

Meanwhile, Easyjet has launched a winter schedule for the sixth year from Leeds Bradford Airport, which includes four weekly flights to Geneva.

The route will connect Yorkshire travellers with popular ski resorts and will run from 10 December until 13 April, with more than 20,000 seats available.

Tony Hallwood, aviation development director at Leeds Bradford Airport, said: “With the winter season upon us now, it’s fantastic to confirm the return of easyJet at LBA. Geneva is an incredibly popular leisure route through the winter season, as it’s ideally placed for ski and snowboard holiday breaks in Europe at good prices.

“As the region’s international airport, we are focused upon offering the very best schedules for all of our passengers to enjoy convenient access to Europe and beyond. We look forward to welcoming easyJet back at LBA for the winter season and offering their customers fantastic levels of service as they fly in and out of LBA.”

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, commented: “Each winter our flights from Leeds Bradford to Geneva prove ever more popular with skiers and snowboarders and we expect this coming winter to be no exception.

“easyJet flies more than three times more frequently to and from Europe’s ski destinations than any other UK airline and Geneva is our largest gateway. We carry 190,000 passengers to Geneva every week throughout the season and on any given Saturday in January, we have up to 88 flights and carry over 12,000 customers throughout the day into Geneva alone.”
