Pioneering tinnitus clinic launches in Leeds

A LEADING audiology clinic, which operates across 10 centres in the UK including Harley Street in London, has launched in Leeds offering tinnitus sufferers across Yorkshire access to long-term relief from the condition.

It is estimated more than 181,000 people in West Yorkshire have experienced tinnitus, which means they hear a ringing sound in one or both of their ears or head not linked to any external source.

The Tinnitus Clinic at Joseph’s Well, which has undergone a major refurbishment, will be run by audiologist Mike Wells.

He said: “Pioneering treatments including Acoustic CR Neuromodulation and Tinnitus Desensitisation Therapy are exclusive to The Tinnitus Clinic.

“Our new Leeds clinic means people living with tinnitus across Yorkshire will now be able to benefit from our full product range of state-of the-art treatments.

Having a Leeds base is also likely to benefit people in other parts of the country, too, as we are aware of patients in the past having to travel to our Edinburgh and Manchester clinics to access treatment.”

Typically, tinnitus is described as a ‘ringing in the ears’, but it can also be a whizzing, roaring, buzzing, hissing or another type of continuous noise. It may be high or low-pitched, and the volume may vary over time.

In some fortunate cases, the tinnitus will fade within hours or days. However, in others the tinnitus sound can continue for months or years, affecting sleep patterns, concentration and overall quality of life.

Mr Wells added: “The opening of our latest clinic is a significant milestone for our business, and follows the opening of a new clinic in Hertfordshire in March this year.

“The new clinic is near Leeds General Infirmary and also based within a business hub with a number of other firms so we are confident it will provide a welcoming and professional setting in which to meet clients and carry out assessments and treatments.”
