People: Corporate finance team gets a boost; Law firm hires director; SME specialist joins security business

AN associate director has been hired in Grant Thornton’s expanding corporate finance team. 

Will Brennand joins the  team from Mazars. He will work alongside partner Richard Goldsack on deals such as the management buy-out of PAW Structures and the acquisition of Giffen Holdings by Renew which have recently completed.

Mr Brennand, who will be based out of Grant Thornton’s Leeds office, completed a number of high profile transactions during his time at Mazars, including the disposals of Axis Elevators to United Technologies Corp, Tersus Consultancy to Group Protec and Gem Scientific to Solingen Private Equity.

His appointment tops off a year in which finance transformation director Simon Davidson, corporate finance director Jim Whittaker and partners Martin Barron, Rachel Engwell and Dan Rosinke, have all joined to boost the team.

Banner Jones

LAW firm Banner Jones has expanded its commercial teams with the appointment of director Cathy Thomas.

Ms Thomas joins the Sheffield-based commercial property team after 10 years’ experience advising on freehold and long leasehold sales, acquisitions and leasing.

She studied at Liverpool University before joining Nabarro, and subsequently BRM Law.

Executive director and head of business legal services, Chris Sellars, said: “Cathy is a welcome addition to our established commercial property team – bringing with her considerable expertise and experience, and further bolstering our ability to meet increased demand fuelled by an ever expanding business community based within the Sheffield City Region.

SECURITY specialists Jermyn Consultant have added to their team with the appointment of Chris Hunter.

A former US recruitment consultant, Mr Hunter has joined the business to focus on the academic and SME divisions.

He and the rest of the team will be supported by Toni O’Sullivan who joins to manage the increasingly popular scenario exercise side of the business.

The York University graduate will project manage and organise scenario exercises designed to test the resilience and management capabilities of the company’s customers.

“The business landscape continues to throw up any number of challenges for managers and these change from day to day,” said Jermyn managing director, George Hall.

“We work closely with them to identify all threats and then prepare them for if the worst should happen. Jermyn Consulting has successfully prepared customers such as the Glasgow School of Art who were able to respond effectively when fire hit their historic Charles Rennie Mackintosh Building.
