Cellino and Leeds United facing £500,000 FA fines

THE Football Association is set to fine Massimo Cellino and his club Leeds United around £500,000.

Chairman and owner of Leeds United Mr Cellino is also facing an 18-month ban as well as his half of the fine, totalling £250,000.

The club has reportedly breached FA regulations with regards to the transfer of Ross McCormack to Fulham in 2014.

It has been accused of making illegal payments during the £10.75m transfer, according to the Daily Mail.

In a statement on the club’s website yesterday Cellino said: “I am surprised to read the news regarding the FA’s intentions to ban and fine me, as well as fine the Club. I am not guilty and I will take the right steps to defend myself through the tribunal.

“I feel that I am guilty of one thing, protecting Leeds United since I took charge of the Club. I ask the players, manager and my staff to continue to work with loyalty and professionalism and to keep fighting for the Club everyday on and off the pitch.

“I am sure that the public in this country and the free press will take the time to look into this case and find the truth.”

This may put a stopper in the deal Cellino was hoping to make with fellow Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani for 50% of the club this week.
