Leeds United owner Cellino hit with 18-month ban and fine

LEEDS UNITED and the club’s owner Massimo Cellino have each been fined £250,000, with the chairman getting an 18-month ban on top.

The Football Association said that both had breached its football agent regulations in regards to the transfer of Ross McCormack from Leeds to Fulham on 8 July 2014.

Both the club and its owner have been accused of making illegal payments during the £10.75m transfer

Effective from 1 February 2017, Cellino has been suspended for 18 months from being a director or shadow director of Leeds United or any other football club. He is also being forced to attend an FA education programme on his duties as an owner and director of an English football club.

Leeds United and Cellino have indicated to the FA that both would appeal, contesting the sanctions imposed.

This is not the first time that Cellino has been in hot water with football’s governing body. In fact the third time he has been hit with a ban since he acquired the Elland Road club in 2014.

Cellino was supposed to be signing away 50% of the club this week to fellow Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani, but this has been put on the backburner as he faces his FA sentencing.
