Johnston Press Yorkshire title to cease printing

AS publisher Johnston Press focuses on cost cutting and the divestment of titles, its South Yorkshire Times title is set to be the latest casualty in the decline of print media.

The paper will continue to publish but only online. Next week’s edition on 15 December will be its last in print.

In a statement on its website the South Yorkshire Times said it “no longer makes sense” to have a weekly print edition of the newspaper.

It will focus on its social media presence, and hinted at a consolidation with Doncaster Free Press, its sister paper in the region. It said it would be looking at how it can feature more Dearne Valley and South Yorkshire news in the Free Press.

It said: “We would like to issue a heartfelt thank you to all of our readers and advertisers for their continued support of the Times over many years.

“We hope, if you do not already read the Times online, that you will do so in the future – for it is within the digital arena that your Times will continue to live and serve the community.”
