Sovereign Square development completes

WORK has finished on Addleshaw Goddard’s’ Sovereign Square Leeds HQ.

The scheme, part of the council’s ongoing masterplan for the city centre, was completed by architects Sheppard Rosbon, a joint development between Bruntwood and Kier Properties.

The 92,569 sq ft building adjacent to KPMG’s new building has five floors with four retail units at ground level and a basement car park.

The south-west elevation of the building, facing on to the new public garden space in the centre of the square is a saw-tooth glazed facade, replicated on the north-east façade, addressing the busy street Swinegate.

The sustainable strategy for the BREEAM Excellent building includes an array of solar panels on the roof, recyclable materials and high-performance glazing.

Addleshaw Goddard completed their move into four and a half floors in the building at the beginning of December.

Tony O’Brien, partner at Sheppard Robson, said: “Surrounded by both historic and modern Leeds, the building responds to both the calmness of the newly created public space and bustle that surrounds the site.

“The composition, materiality and ultimately the ambition of the building mark a pivotal site within the council’s masterplan.”
