Work at £400m Kirkstall Forge scheme gathers pace

CONSTRUCTION work at CEG’s £400m Kirkstall Forge regeneration scheme is gathering pace as Wates Construction starts the next phase of work at the flagship development.

The milestone has seen Wates begin the fit-out of the seven storey 110,000 sq ft development, the first building to be constructed at the 57 acre site.

Building work began early 2016 and is due to complete in autumn 2017.

Jon Kenny, director of CEG, said: “The first phase of commercial development is on programme to complete in autumn 2017 and we have already secured a pre-let to Zenith for its new 45,000 sq ft headquarters. CEG will relocate into the ground floor of the building and we have a number of parties interested in the remaining three floors.”

The building is the first phase of commercial development at the mixed-use scheme, which will comprise 1,050 new homes, 300,000 sq ft of office space and 100,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and community provision.

It is estimated CEG’s regeneration at Kirkstall Forge will create in the region of 2,400 employment opportunities for the community and boost the local economy by £5m each year.

Paul Dodsworth, business unit director, Wates Construction Yorkshire and North East, said: “Commencing the interior fit-out at Kirkstall Forge is a significant milestone in the delivery of CEG’s flagship scheme – a vision that is set to transform the commercial and residential offering in Leeds.

“As construction work advances at the site, we have nurtured an ever-closer partnership with CEG, which involves us working in collaboration to create extensive opportunities for local people. Excitement continues to build at the project and we look forward to unveiling this exceptional development in autumn 2017.”
