Shopping centre rings up best results in almost a decade

DONCASTER’S Lakeside Village shopping centre ended 2016 on a high, reporting its best results on record since 2009.

The retail outlet centre on White Rose Way saw total sales rise by more than 5% during 2016, with more than 1.7million transactions carried out – an achievement the centre’s management team attribute to the arrival of new stores and brand names.

In December alone the site saw both The Body Shop Outlet and women’s fashion retailer Bonmarche open at the centre, as well as a Costa Coffee Drive Through.

The new stores joined other arrivals of 2016 including Beauty Outlet and workwear company Dickies, giving the site its second year running at 100% store occupancy.

John Magee, centre manager at Lakeside Village, said: “We’re thrilled to be starting 2017 on a high after such a successful year.

“We’re seeing more and more well-known high street names and big brands joining the list of retailers and products on offer here at Lakeside Village and, as our figures show, our loyal shoppers are loving it.”

The year, which marked the Lakeside Village site’s 20th birthday, also saw the centre enhance its customer facilities.

Mr Magee added: “Lakeside Village prides itself on being more than an outlet shopping centre. The brands, the products, the people and the facilities we have here really do break the mould of outlet sites and we’re proud to be one of South Yorkshire people’s favourite places to shop.”

More new store openings are planned at the site during 2017, with Ben Sherman set to join Lakeside Village’s other 45 stores in February.

Lakeside Village is operated by asset managers Realm, specialists across the outlet retail and leisure property sectors, on behalf of the fund managers DTZ Investors.
