130-year-old construction company placed into administration

HULL-based Hall Construction Group, which can trace its roots back to 1887, has been placed into administration, it has been confirmed.

It was reported earlier this week that the company was understood to be considering filing for administration after posting a loss of more than £2m in its annual accounts.

Julian Pitts and Nick Reed of Begbies Traynor in Leeds have been appointed as joint administrators of the company, which specialises in the construction and refurbishment of offices, commercial buildings, schools and warehouses.

With a turnover of £30m, it employs 65 staff as well as providing work for many sub-contractors throughout Yorkshire

Located on Clay Street, the administrators say they are considering “all options” to enable the business to continue to trade.

Mr Pitts said: “It is extremely sad to see such a long-established Yorkshire based business in difficulties.  The company recently suffered from undertaking two significant out-of-town fixed price design and build contracts, one of  which subsequently resulted in a £2.9m loss.

“However, with its strong reputation in commercial construction, together with a number of blue chip and public sector clients within Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, we are hopeful that Hall Construction represents an attractive proposition for the right buyer.  We are currently marketing the business and our aim is to find a buyer for the business as a whole, or for parts of the business, in order to achieve the best return possible for creditors.”

Batty Joinery continues to trade profitably and is not a part of the group, administrators said.
