Retailer shuts its doors at £260m shopping centre

Retailer Occasions has closed its doors at The Broadway shopping centre in Bradford.

Ian Ward, general manager of The Broadway Bradford said: “We can confirm that Occasions at The Broadway has closed.

“We are in talks with a number of retailers at present to let the small number of vacant units currently in the shopping centre.”

The 570,000 sq ft shopping centre, which cost £260m to build, was opened in November 2015.

Retailers including Debenhams, H&M, Topshop, Marks & Spencers and River Island have space at the centre, which was developed by Westfield.

Since then several stores have also closed. Independent boutique Celeb closed 12 weeks after opening in December 2016, whilst retailer Accent closed in October, Jeff Bains Shoes closed in July and Spud U Like closed in June 2016.

These closures have been offset by the imminent openings of Papadoms Indian restaurant and a Gourmet Burger Kitchen opening up, as well as the announcement of a six-screen cinema development on the site.
