People: Lupton Fawcett adds to tax team; Able strengthens senior team; Energy specialist appoints MD as company founder departs; and more

Commercial law firm Lupton Fawcett has hired a new head of tax in the form of Julian Moran.

A former tax solicitor at Gordons, Moran has extensive experience covering UK tax matters involving the sale or acquisition of businesses, demergers, and tax-efficient investment into trading companies.

Moran said: “I am really looking forward to working with the excellent Lupton Fawcett teams and, in particular, working across the other key specialisms such as real estate and corporate to provide our clients with tailored, commercially focussed advice”.

Able GroupAble Group, which has major facilities on the Humber, has boosted its senior management team to expand its activities in fields including renewable energy and logistics.

The company’s founder and executive chairman Peter Stephenson, said the move was to ensure that the activities of all its businesses operate as a “single strong unit” maximising the synergies across the organisation.

The senior management team will be led by chief operating officer Chris McManus, who will report directly to Stephenson. McManus joined Able in early last year as group finance director, having held key posts with major companies including A&P and Hertel.

Joining him on the newly-restructured team will be three other directors—Richard Cram (engineering and design), Neil Etherington (business development) and Neil Jarvis (commercial).

The group, which specialises in land and property development, port operations, rig upgrades and marine decommissioning and demolition, said objective of the changes was to meet the needs of customers in both existing and emerging markets.

Amar Hussain Orchard EnergyOrchard Energy has appointed Amar Hussain as managing director, following the announcement that the company’s founder Gareth Henderson has decided to leave to allow him to focus full time on his facilities management business Orchard FM.
 
Hussain steps into the position vacated by Henderson from his current role as commercial director.
 
Henderson steps down following 13 years in the role, having founded the company in 2004.
 
Henderson said: “I am delighted that Amar has been appointed as managing director and am confident that he is the right man to take the business forward and develop new strategic plans to ensure its continued growth.
 
“Amar and I will work closely together in the weeks and months ahead to ensure that the business, as well as our customers, continue to benefit from the stability and strength developed over previous years.
 
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank those that have been a part of the business over the years, and who have worked closely with me to build Orchard into the success it has become.
 
“Having established Orchard Energy from the back bedroom of my home and watched it grow since then, I look forward to the company continuing to go from strength to strength.“

Aidan Sutcliffe Malcolm HollisIndependent commercial building surveying firm Malcolm Hollis has promoted Aidan Sutcliffe to senior chartered building surveyor at its Leeds office.

Sutcliffe is experienced in a range of traditional building surveying activities including the procurement and delivery of construction projects for owners and occupiers within the commercial office and industrial sectors.  He works with a range of clients including McDonald’s restaurants and London & Cambridge Properties.

His promotion comes off the back of the appointment of Dan Horsley as building surveyor.
